The very hungry caterpillar, by Eric Carle

  • Title: The very hungry caterpillar
  • Author(s): Eric Carle
  • Year of 1st publication: 1969
  • Original language: English
  • Language of our edition: English
  • Publisher of our edition: Penguin book
  • Rating (1 to 5): 5
  • My impressions: I totally love this book! The illustrations from Eric Carle are just terribly pretty (they may have been a big break-through when the book first came out - they are far from the ordinary drawings used in children books back in the 60s) and the story is so sweet. It helps the kids learn to count to 5, some colors, the days of the week and the evolution from egg to butterfly. We have the board edition, which is perfect for small kids, as it is sturdy, with bold drawings, tab-style pages in the middle and holes representing the bites of the caterpillar.
  • M's impressions (at 25 months): M has had his ups and downs with this book. He really enjoyed it when he was smaller, specially putting his little fingers on the holes / bites from the caterpillar. But I think we have read it so many times, that by now it's never one of his choices. I guess we will give it some more time and use it again so that he learns the days of the week and... not to be greedy!
  • Other books from this author in our library: "Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?", "From head to toe", "Polar bear, polar bear, what do you hear?", "The grouchy ladybug", "The very busy spider", "The very quiet cricket" (reviews coming up!)
